We Become Stronger When We are Faced with Difficult Times in Life

As the saying goes, “Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors.” This proverb reminds us that life’s challenges and difficulties are what help us grow stronger and wiser. I agree with the fact that we become stronger as individuals when we go through difficult situations in our lives. Hardships in our lives are the one that make us stronger when facing a future challenge.

Firstly, struggles can teach us valuable lessons such as painful experiences. When we face struggles, they open our awareness to reality and challenge us to move towards an understanding of life. Suffering also has the ability to plant teachings in our memory, making them important and unforgettable. For example, the individual who is betrayed by a friend learns that trust, honesty, and relationship selection are valuable. Even though it’s a painful process, it is what they need to learn.

Second of all, facing adversity forces us to adapt and build a stronger resilience in ourselves. Adversity forces people to step out of their comfort zones and deal with circumstances beyond their preparation. When people are faced with adversity, they are encouraged to change their logic and find ways to adapt to the circumstances. This helps to increase resilience, which is the ability to bounce back from adversity and continue the progress. Such as a student who fails in the exams could initially be disappointed. However, failure forces the student to adjust their study methods, time management skills, and seek help when needed. The student will develop high levels of discipline and high levels of confidence when confronted with academic difficulties.

Lastly, Hardships can help us improve our coping skills. Difficulties may challenge people to improve their emotion regulation and problem-solving. Without difficulties in life, people are provided less of an opportunity to develop effective strategies for dealing with stress, disappointment, and frustration. For example, a person who is caring for a family member who is ill has to deal with emotional issues and make tough choices.
This situation helps the person develop patience and problem-solving skills. They become better equipped at dealing with difficulties in their lives.

In summary, the challenges that exist within life can be used as a means for growth. Through challenges, people gain valuable experiences, build resilience, and discover their inner strength. Despite the discomfort that may come with challenges, they can be used as a means for people to approach future challenges with courage and confidence.

  1. The essay presents a clear and relevant argument that difficult times help individuals become stronger, supported by appropriate and mostly well-explained examples, indicating good content understanding. In terms of organization, the essay is logically structured with a clear introduction, well-sequenced body paragraphs, and a coherent conclusion, although some points could be more concisely expressed to avoid minor repetition. Regarding language, the essay demonstrates generally accurate grammar and a suitable academic tone, but there are occasional awkward phrases, word choice issues, and minor mechanical errors that slightly affect fluency. Overall, the ideas are clearly communicated and well supported, but greater precision and variety in language would strengthen the writing further. Based on the MUET band descriptors, this essay would be best placed at Band 4, as it shows clear organization and relevant content with generally effective language use, though it lacks the sophistication and accuracy expected at Band 5.
