Because of this, they sometimes forget to celebrate local traditions like wearing baju kurung or baju melayu, or eating traditional food. For example, some people celebrate Halloween but do not know much about Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, or Deepavali traditions. Therefore, while it’s fun to enjoy other cultures, Malaysians should also remember to value and keep their own traditions and culture alive.
Next, Malaysians are forgetting their roots as they are influnced by other cultures more nowadays.
Some young Malaysians are not speaking their mother tongue like Malay, Chinese dialects, or Tamil. They speak English all the time and don’t learn the cultural stories, music, or dances from their background. Learning English is important as it is used widely but it is also important not to forget our native languages. For example, some do not know how to perform traditional dances like zapin, lion dance, or bharatanatyam. These dances are more than just performances, they are part of our history. If this continues, we may slowly lose important parts of our culture that make Malaysia unique and special.
Lastly, the Malaysian youths are not learning about their cultures enough and schools should be teaching about this to students.
