I strongly agree that traditional face to face class is better than online learning in every aspect but still, agree that physical class have it disadvantages. It can be seen in good aspect of traditional face to face classroom such as improve student communications skill and improve relationships between students and teachers and for it cons are highly cost and anxiety pressure.
Firstly, traditional face-to-face classrooms can improve students’ communication skills.
In a face-to-face classroom, students regularly practice speaking and listening while interacting with teachers and classmates. Activities such as group discussions, class participation, and presentations help students express their ideas clearly and improve their confidence when communicating with others. For example, teachers often ask questions during lessons, and students are required to answer immediately in front of the class. Through group discussions and presentations, students learn how to speak confidently and respond appropriately. Therefore, these communication skills are important for students, especially for real-life situations such as job interviews in the future.
Other than that, traditional face-to-face classrooms can also improve relationships between teachers and students. When students face academic difficulties, teachers can guide and support them throughout the school day. Regular face-to-face interaction helps build trust and a strong bond between teachers and students. As a result, students feel safe, comfortable, and more confident in the classroom, which can improve their academic performance.
For example, if a student does not understand a subject, they can directly ask the teacher questions during the lesson or even after class. Over time, this personal support makes students feel more comfortable and connected to their teacher. Therefore, a strong teacher-student relationship in a traditional classroom creates a positive learning environment and helps students perform better academically.
However, face-to-face classrooms are more costly compared to online learning.
Physical classes require students to pay school fees, transportation costs, school uniforms, meals, and other expenses. Unlike online learning, face-to-face education involves many additional costs related to attending school in person. These expenses can become a burden, especially for families with low income. For example, students need to buy printed textbooks and learning materials for school or college, which are often more expensive than online resources. Lastly, face-to-face classrooms can cause anxiety and pressure for students, especially during social interactions. Some teachers do not care about student anxiety and directly ask them a question in the class individually. The student will feel fear of being judged or getting laughed at by the other students. It can create pressure that can damage their performance in class. For example, in the MUET test, students are required to speak in front of others to discuss the topic given. Students who have social problems will face a hard time, which can eventually lead them to failure. Therefore, social interactions in face-to-face classrooms can increase anxiety and pressure for some students.
In conclusions, traditional face to face classroom haves several advantages such as improve students’ communication skills and improve relationships between teachers and students and at the same time it have disadvantages which are highly cost and can pressure student that leads anxiety. Despite these drawbacks, the benefits of face-to-face learning in creating personal interaction, confidence, and support cannot be ignored. Therefore, schools should continue face-to-face teaching but also provide support for students facing anxiety or financial difficulties and consider blending online tools to make learning more flexible and affordable.
